While using such social media websites, the first thing you shouldn’t do is post anything personally related to you such as you social security number, address, phone number, etc. Using your full name on such social media websites can even cause you issues, which is why it is always recommended that you use name abbreviations or nicknames. In addition to protecting your personal information, you must be capable of protecting your computer. It requires proper education and vigilance to protect your computer from malware and harmful computer viruses, just like protecting your personal information. The essential step is protecting your username and password. The main reason why it is considered the most important step any user should take is because it is the most common method hackers use to access accounts on social media websites, and then begin sending information from the account. First, change the password often from time to time, and do not make it easy for anyone to figure it out. Second, if you receive an e-mail from the social media website you use asking for your username and password, delete it immediately because after you register an account, they never ask for any of this information. In addition to that, put into your consideration some URL abbreviations, since they may lead you into other issues. Be careful and update your security software before clicking on any link if you are unaware of the person sending it.
